Research On Thematic Web Mapping Based On SVG

With the rapid development of the computer technology and Internet technology, a new type of map — web map — appears. It is changing people's habit of using map as well as challenging the traditional cartography theories and technology.Aiming at improving the visual and interactive quality of web map, this thesis introduces the SVG technology, which is a powerful web page representation under the standard XML. Web map is the research object of the thesis, and the topic of the thesis focused on several key technologies of web cartography based on SVG under the guidance of theories of cartography and Web GIS. First of all, the current status of cartography and the relationship between digital cartography and GIS were discussed, and then the technology of thematic cartography and the design principle of web map introduced, as well as the Web GIS technology. Furthermore, several key technologies of implementing the web thematic mapping of SARS are researched. At the end of the thesis, some insufficiencies of the current edition are pointed out as well as potential methods to improve them. Moreover, future perspective of development of the web mapping based on SVG is given.
