With the development and widespread application of remote sensing technology, the regimentation of thematic maps using remote sensing data has become an important method of regimenting thematic maps. Using remote sensing images for larger-scale remote sensing thematic mapping has many advantages, such as abundant information, short investigating and mapping cycles, low-cost and so on This method has obvious social and economic benefits and broad application prospects. Meanwhile, it has become preferred information sources for map updating, investigating and planning of land resources.Taking a city in Sichuan Province as the research area, supported by ERDAS and ArcView software, the thematic mapping methods of land utilization by way of digital processing and interpreting QuickBird images are deeply studied and discussed. The main research contents of this thesis are as following:(1) QuickBird images are geometrically corrected and orthorectified, and the Orthophoto Map of the research area is made too.(2) On the basis of deep understanding to the research area, the interpreted marks of QuickBird images of the research area are established, the land use types of the research area are interpreted and partitioned. At the same time, interpreting accuracy is given too.(3) The land use database is established.(4) The land use map of the research area is regimented based on interpreting QuickBird images, and the calculating methods of action-value are introduced in detail which comes from the quantitation of point, line or plane shape mapping factors. Besides, the action-value thematic maps are regimented by taking grass areas and parks influence degree as plane shape mapping factors, taking road understand degree as line shape mapping factors and taking entertainment establishment as point shape mapping factors .
