Cartographic Generalization has been attracting great attention as it has been one of the key topics in the field of cartography.In recent years,with geographic information system technology is developing rapidly,cartographic generalization study dependents on geographical information systems more or less.We have a lot of study results on automated cartographic generalization till now.However,it is actually not enough for the market demand for the automation system.There are many reasons for it.First of all,cartographic generalization study at home and abroad is mainly concentrated in vector data compression. But data in geographical information systems is mainly in vector-grid mixed structure form. Second,recent research of cartographic generalization focuses mainly on the linear elements of geography,but in the geographic information environment,the map is composed of point,line and polygon,three graphic elements.Third,the current cartographic integrates single major factor for automatic generalization,not all graphic elements together.Finally,the recent study is almost for the general map;well thematic maps have much more demand for its greater and wider application in actual fact.Therefore, this article proposed thematic maps generalization based on remote sensing images aiming at problems listed above.Cartographic Generalization of thematic maps based on remote sensing images must develop automatic generalization system which based on vector geographic database according to general theory of cartographic generalization.Then we should introduce Geo-Information TUPU theory into the method for better generalization,so that can in line with radical principles such as consistency of graphic elements and mutual conditionality. Geo-information TUPU is proposed by Chinese scientists Shu-Peng Chen as a space science research method.It's the original results in Chinese space science research field.It has combined remote sensing,map database,geographic information systems and the large amount of digital terrestrial information together,progressed by graphic abstracting, displayed spacial structure and the law of temporal-spacial changes of geographic system and its elements in virtue of dynamic visualization technology.This article introduced Geo-Information TUPU theory,combined remote sensing thematic mapping with cartographic generalization effectively,and take Kunming City,Wuhua district for example to show the implementation of comprehensive mapping Methods of land-use series thematic maps.Main content include the following four parts:Ⅰ.Theoretical basis and methods based on remote sensing image of thematic maps cartographic generalizationⅡ.Automatic cartographic generalization based on map database according to general approach of comprehensiveⅢ.Applying Geo-information TUPU in remote sensing thematic map cartographic generalizationⅣ.Practice of land-use series thematic cartographic generalization based on remote sensing images...
