Vocational education, which mainly produces the practical talents, is an important part of the state higher education system. The practical talents in the 21st century, who have skills, knowledge, etc in order to do a particular job, not only turn out to be far-sighted and need to have the strategic thinking ability, but also need to be equipped with intense professional background and wide knowledge; meanwhile, need to be capable of flexibly negotiating, communicating, making policies, getting along, inspiring and make them an art. Using the traditional teaching pattern can't fulfill these needs. The educational reform is changing with each passing day. Most of the researchers into education begin to pay attention to new teaching patterns. In this case, the case teaching, as an effective training measure, is more and more eye-catching.Case teaching is an educational pattern that has a strong application to teaching. Both staff and students analyze, research and discuss a lot of cases, which can lead students to create and bring forward new ideas, develop students'ability of analyzing and solving problems, train their ability of oral expression, cause them to mind the psychological quality and enhance the teaching method. It is either a teaching method, whose purpose is to further improve students'comprehensive qualities or an effective teaching one to find a joint between theory and practice. Biology is an applied subject; thus it is necessary in vocational higher education of biology.To begin with the development of the case teaching in and out of China, the article recounts in detail its contents, function and characteristics as well. Based on the character of the education of biology of the vocational highercollege, it describes the use of case teaching in the teaching of biology dealing with whether it is possible to be used in biology, its procession, the comparison between experimental and ordinary classes, the cases for choice and the role that teachers of biology play in class. It proves that the use of case teaching can improve students'comprehensive qualities and offer the good ways to develop highly skilled talents.
