In recent years, along with the extensive applications of the Geographic Information System and the Satellite Positioning technique, the Intelligent Transportation System used to resolve the city transportation problem gets to develop quickly. As one of the important parts of the Intelligent Transportation System, the Vehicle Navigation System has already become a popular research direction in social researches. Vehicle Navigation System's emphases and difficulty are how to exactly and Real-timely provide the position of vehicle to users. Use geography data to redress position data of vehicle. The method can enhance precision of current position data, and this is the main research contents of the paper.Firstly, the paper introduces the background and significance of the theme, and gives a simple review of the domestic and international development condition to Vehicle Navigation System and Map matching.Secondly, Based on analyzing the factors of affecting real-time performance, robustness, and matching precision of the map matching algorithm, and according to the continuity of the vehicle movement, the idea of partitioning the road net into some grids is introduced. Using the information about the position and the direction of the vehicle running and the topological feature of the road network, a map matching algorithm is proposed base on the topological feature and the direction of the road network, Exactness of matching efficiency, reliability of matching , time efficiency are proved.Finally, the paper makes a simple summary aiming at the study contents and the outlook for the research direction of the future.
