The solid imaging technology plays more and more important roles in the society development, and every part of our life is affected by this technology. In this paper, the work principle of solid imaging system and its performance evaluation technology are researched. The detailed contents are.The work principles of solid detectors CCD and CMOS are reviewed. The comparison about them is made. The pixel construction formulation and signal readout methods are introduced in detail. The formation of color imaging system and television are given.The mathematical model of imaging system is built. From the linearity and space-invariant characteristics of optical system, the modulation transfer function is deduced, and the relationship between the MTF and the LSF and sine grating is discussed.The test methodology of every performance parameter and test procedure are given, including modulation transfer function, non-uniformity, distortion, and so on, and the test framework and test flowchart are presented.The imaging quality evaluation methods are discussed. The objective and subjective evaluation methods are presented respectively, and the future developing technology about the imaging quality evaluation is reviewed.
