With the development of computer science and network technology,GIS is no longer as a single application area,but applied widely to each industry and plays an important role in country economic construction by combining with other technology subjects. In recent years, with rapid economic development and vigorously strengthened national infrastructure construction, transportation develops quickly, bridges, as an important element of transportation network also grows very rapidly. Guizhou locates in the southwestern mountain areas, bridges either already completed or under construction are numerous due to its unique geographical environment,thus the informatization and hign efficient of bridge management is becoming more and more important. Introducing GIS into Bridge Management System can help managers macro-grasp the overall situation, but also quickly master specific data inquiries and improve the efficiency of management, to promote the automation and modernization of bridge management.In this article the author analyzes the background of development of GIS and components technology, discusses the development way based on COM (Component Object Model),OLE(Object Linking&Embedding) and ActiveX is the trend of secondary development of GIS and introduces the characteristics and structure of the Components GIS. This paper provides more detailed information about the three means of secondary development using object-oriented technology based on ESRI's ArcObjects components, and use visualization tools, such as Visual Basic calling of Graphical operation,data editing, graphics, Spatial Analysis of ArcObjects to secondary develop the GIS platform of Guizhou highway bridge management system. Due to the use of object-oriented development language and ArcObjects,the efficiency of developing system is effectual improved.The GIS platform of system has a good user interface and a more complete function, users can use the system without learning complex concepts and operation.Bridge maintenance workers so as to reduce the burden of work to improve the efficiency of the management of the bridge.This paper focuses on the secondary development and implementation of GIS based on ArcObjects, and takes the GIS platform of Guizhou highway bridge management system as an example to study on the system design,development and implementation. Design process,including system object,principle of design and overall framework is discussed,various components of the system and the system's main functions are expatiated.The paper also describes the conclusions of the study on Bridge Management System based on GIS, and the system further study in the future.This paper is achieved through computer using GIS technology and components technology by a combination of geographical features of the study area. It broadens the application of existing technology, and shows the significance of practical application for bridge management.
