The Toponym Database System Based On GIS

In recent years, with all levels governments strengthening construction, functional departments expending application needs,the construction of the toponym database system has become an important element of the urban construction and development.The system presented in this paper is a generic management tool of toponym,which is designed to provide a series of services for toponym data and mass space data, such as organization, construction, maintenance, updating, security management, data issue and metadata issue. The system has further enhanced toponym management level of scientific, standardization and information; it also provides better services of toponym information query and map orientation for the construction and management of social.It begins by introducing research significance, home and abroad research actuality of the toponym system and basic knowledge about GISused in the paper; then it introduces the spatial data model------Geodatabaseand spatial data engine------ArcSDE used in the system. The paper expatiateparticularly aims and tasks, design principles, overall structure, technology course and key technologies of the system. The system designed in the paper has achieved normal GIS functions, such as map display, zooming in, zooming out and wandering. Futhermore, other functions, like placename inputting, query, maintenance, will also be in the charge of this system. Furthermore,using the order of database building as a start point,the paper puts forward a method of controlling attribute data quality,and a certain degree of effective detection effect has been achieved.An instance isintroduced in the papter------the toponym database system of JinHuacity.Finally the paper does summarization and expectation for the work.The system is developed based on the large database------Oracle,which does database operation using the middleware------ArcSDE. Thevector data is stored in the Oracle, the application system accesses Oracle through ArcSDE, and it implements storage, management, and application of the toponym data.The grid data is stored in document form. C/S is the development mode of the system, which is developed through C++ based on groupware technology.
