The Geographical Information System (GIS) has been developing for over 40 years, and it is widely used. It turns to be a comprehensive system concerning computer science, geography, survey, remote sense, and cartography. The technology of remove sense system (RS) and global positioning system (GPS) makes the collection of spatial data more efficient and accurate than before. The technology of database enables the storage of huge scale of spatial data. The Internet and distributed computing and object technology make it possible to share and exchange spatial data globally. Today, the GIS becomes more large the before and it can interoperate with other systems so that to process complicated tasks. The expansion of GIS enables the share and exchange of spatial data. A geographic information system with open interface will promote the exchange spatial data between users and systems. It is important for the complexity and integration of geographical information system to open and standardized operation interface, which enables different system to interoperate in a standard way and ensure the validity and efficiency of operations. Many domestic and international organizations have set up standards of geographical information. The Open GIS Consortium is an international standardization organization with extensive influence. The Open GeoData Interoperability Specification intends implementation share and interoperations of geodata by open geographical information syslellt with itidust,y standards and open interfaces. The article discusses the spatial data engine with open interfaces, from which external systems can implement the interoperations of spatial data and functions. The spatial data engine focuses on the management and operation of spatial features. It implements the construction, storage, query, organizing and transforming the vector spatial data. It provide the interface of the storage of features, layers and map to the database system and the interface of extracting features, setting up display attributes, layer management and spatial query to the user interaction environment. The applications implement spatial operations by invoking the interfaces. A general spatial data engine implements the construction and storage of spatial features, layer management and spatial query. The article discusses the analysis, design and implementation of spatial data engine, analyze the characteristics of data structures and algorithms and contrasting the implementation strategies so that to increase the performance. An application of MapStation is showed here, which has implemented the editing, display, storage and query spatial data. The MapStation is implemented over the spatial data engine, by which construction of applications becomes flexible and efficient.
