The application of the Geographical Information System (GIS) is an important way to increase the level of the mineral potential prediction. There are many methods for the mineral potential prediction and the weights-of-evidence model is an important one of them. The weights-of-evidence methodology was adapted for mineral potential mapping with GIS. It combines spatial data from diverse sources to describe and analyze interactions, provide support for decision makers, and make predictive models. There were many successful applications in mineral potential prediction field. In order to meet the nation increasing need of natural resource and use weights-of-evidence in mineral potential prediction more effectively, basing on the analysis of studies at home and abroad, in this paper it combites computer science, GIS and weights-of evidence, and build the 3D model of weights-of-evidence which is developed on Visual Basic 6.0 platform. Then apply it to Dachang mine field in Guangxi province, predicting the Sn potential possibility. Comparing with the old predictive result made in this area before, it is found that the predictive result which is made through 3D weights-of-evidence methodology is basically as same as the old one. It is fully proved that the 3D weights-of-evidence modeling is right and it can be apply into practice effectively.Meanwhile, in order to make the predictive result more real and closer to the real world, the 3D geographical software-Surpac was adopted in this paper. Geological database was built in Surpac and realized predictive result 3-D visualization, and viewers can watch the predictive result from different angles and positons.Weights-of-evidence 3D modeling and its application research on Dachang mine field in Guangxi province provides useful theories and application experience. This research is valuable for the exploration and application of 3D weights-of-evidence.
