Along with the enhancement of infomationization level, Location-based information services apply to different professions of the society, more and more fundamental geographic information is needed by every special geographical information system which is used for goverment macroscopical management and assistant decision. So it's very necessary to research how to make full use of WebGIS technology and how to process and manage the information. If we can provide the society with such services as inquiry, data and products issuance and data distribution of geography information on the basis of the study of the distributed service technology, we will improve the use of geography information. This paper first analyzes the status quo of the domestic and international distributed service in fundamental geographic information, studies the types and pattern of the fundamental geographic information products, in view of the traditional distribution service pattern's insufficiency, proposes the improvement, then describes the contents and key technology of the distributed service. According to the existing basic geography data in Fujian and the requirements of its data provision and considering the characteristics of basic geography data, it determines the functional module, system structure, development platform of the distributed service system. With the ArcIMS as map server, using the tools such as Java, JSP and JavaScript, it designs and develops the distributed system based on B/S used in the internet and intranet. The practical application indicates that this system can make more convenient and automatic the procedures such as inquiry, ordering and providing data in fundamental geography information distributed service. It can satisfy the demands of all users to get the data much convenient and quickly and can also improves our distributed service efficiency. This paper is a study and experiment of a design method and its result can be served as a reference for the relative departments.
