Mashup is a new breed of Web-based data integration applications. It has a hallmark of the second-generation Web applications which informally known as Web 2.0, gradually emerging on the internet, being one trend of the Web 2.0. This paper is the summary of the research on Mashup phenomenon and the practice on mapping Mashups building, the major studies include the following:Firstly, this paper studies the epidemic situation of Mashups, concludes and statements the meaning of Mashup either as procedures or development models, analyses its background. And this paper elaborates the Mashup on the aspects of basis, characteristics, types, structures, platforms, tools and the development of key technical, points out that there are advantages of the Mashup development model as follows: the simplified development, repeated use of promoting, based on open standards, convenient data sharing, low cost of development, portable development and agile operation.Secondly, this paper presents a general overview on the mapping Mashup, summarizes the closely related technologies in building up the mapping Mashup, including that: analyzes and compares the mapping application programming interface's with high frequency of use in current; studies the geographic data means of expression by using the geographic data markup languages like GeoRSS,KML/KMZ and the JSON format used in geography which known as GeoJSON; analyzes mapping Mashups' data sources and data disposal, to lay the foundation for mapping Mashup's building. Finally, this paper uses the research results in front, tries to construct a map Mashup procedure as experiment , illustrates that there are some advantages and restrictions of Mashup's development model in building GIS Web services accordingly above, to some extent, meets the requirements of GIS applications for the business agility.
