Information Syndication refers to the publication of information in a standard format so thatit can be easily accessed, aggregated, and shared by many potential users, and the publishedwebcontent can be transmitted in a much larger range. Geographic Information Syndicationrefers to the publication of meta-data information about geo-events in a standard format, in orderto provide a facile method of Geographic information issuing and transferring, which makes thesyndictaion very effective. Geographic Information Syndication allows users to obtain interestedGeographic Information fastly and efficiently from massive information. It enhancesGeographic information sharing greatly.Based on the in-depth study on the Information Syndication technologies and thecharacteristics of Geographic Information, this paper presents the research work of GeographicInformation Syndication as follows:(1) RSS and Atom are the two most popular Information Syndication formats. This paperanalyses the two formats’ technical characteristics, and investigates the three steps of RSS andAtom technology in the Information Syndication application, including Syndication file’sGeneration, Syndication File’s publication and aggregating file at client. Based on the above, thispaper makes an in-depth analysis of the GeoRSS model, and points out its problem in theGeographic Information Syndication application. To make it more suitable for GeographicInformation Syndication, this paper extends the GeoRSS model in two aspects.(2) In the process of Syndication, the web data resources can be divided into two kinds: oneis the RSS or Atom feed which accords with the stardard format of Information Syndication;another is web page data which is unstructured or semi-structured. As a result, the syndicationstrategy is different to each kind of data. In the process of web resources syndication, thedifficulty is how to syndicate the web page data efficiently. This paper proposes an appropriatemethod to syndicate the web page data.(3) Taking Yearbook database for instance, this paper presents a method for syndicating thedata resources stored in the local Database, the storage strategy of the Yearbook data in SQLServer2008, and the method of creating GeoRSS file using T-SQL.(4) Based on the previous study, this paper makes an in-depth research on the principle andthe system architecture of Mashup, and develops a prototype system of Geographic Information Syndication applying for the web data, local data, map API and other data resources.
