Hunan province is one of the provinces in which landslides or other geological disasters occur very easily and frequently. So, with the development of the highway in southern and western Hunan, there is more mountains and hypsography, more complicated terrain and physiognomy, and hill landslide happens easier in mountains areas with high mountains and steep slopes. Because of those, it is faced many slope failure and landslide problems under construction of highway. In the national eleventh five-year plan, Hunan's highway mileage may exceed the province's totally highway mileage in past fifteen years, and the aggregate investment will be double compared with the national tenth five-year plan. Therefore, it is very important and great demand to strengthen research and summarize engineering experience for landslide occurred by the construction of highway. It is also helpful to know the law and characteristic of similar landslide in Hunan mountainous area, to enhance the prevention of a great deal of roadway landslide for preventing and reducing harmful disasters.Up to present, many experts and scholars have already carried out much research in the following areas, and got many achievements:â‘ Based on the geoscience theory, analysis and evaluate conditions, causes, mechanisms, types and influence factors of landslide.â‘¡Mainly according to the statistical probability analysis, make geological hazard assessment for regional landslide.â‘¢Mainly based on the mechanics theory, research landslide prevention measures.But as for engineering landslide took place by the construction of highway, also there is many new subjects to research.On the base of field survey, exploration, test and mornitoring, author has deeply studied the characteristic, assessment and prevention of the Xujiadong landslide reactivation by using the latest landslide geological basal theory, single-point geological disaster assessment method and landslide comprehensive management engineering technology, and achieved the following main cognition and conclusion:1. From analysis of the four aspects containing landform shape, remains investigation of landslide and the geological environment, formation mechanism of landslide evolution, we can know the Xujiadong landslide is a ancient landslide. It is of guiding significance for the cognition and discovery of similar landslide in highway line selection.2. By comprehensive exploration test, the characteristic of Xujiadong ancient landslide reactivation has been analysed. How to determine the shear strength problem of the sliding-zone soil and how to make sure the most deep slide problem among many sliding surfaces has been settled. This research method posses popularization application value.3. According to the analysis of ground water conditions, especially the study of the sensibility between the landslide stability analysis coefficients and the ground water, scientific basis is provided for "controlling water before preventing landslide" in landslide prevention.4. The author suggests the specific idea and method. It can be insured the lease amount of work and the better prevention effect. Meanwhile it can be solved construction technology difficulty, and approved good effect in practical engineering. There is significance in treatment of similar landslide.In a word, the research conclusion not only gives highway's disaster prevention and reduction and the other local engineering direct guiding value and application value, but also the research gives other areas' landslide investigation and prevention universality and extensibility. So this article have theory and engineering practices significance.
