With the development of economy and society, human consumption on energy is increasing highly. In order to conserve energy and achieve the sustainable development of human society, the responsibility of finding new energy sources has become one of the most pressing issues that people must face. As a clean, non-polluting energy, solar energy has inexhaustible characteristics.China has abundant solar energy resources. However, the domestic use of solar energy is not sufficient. Currently, the majority of solar panels are fixed and there are features of intermittent illumination and the spatial distribution of ever-changing for solar energy, and this lead to the result that the solar energy conversion efficiency is very low. It can be seen that a kind of tracking mode less affected by the nature is very necessary.The purpose of this paper is to design a system to enhance conversion efficiency of solar energy on the basis of researching on several parts of the tracking technology and the features of GPS. This paper includes the following aspects:First, the paper has analyzed the utilization of solar energy resources, as well as the current main form of sun-tracking, and has chosed a tracking system.Second, the paper introduced the GPS global positioning system components, principles of navigation and positioning. Basing on the establishing of a mathematical model of the sun and proposing of an algorithm for computing the location of the sun, this paper has proposed an overall sight programs about the system.Third, the paper designed hardware and software of the system. The hardware includes GPS module, control module, memory module, machine module, display module and so on. There are also researches about communication protocols of the GPS module and configuration instructions. Moreover, the paper designed the identification on satellite data which has been obtained by the GPS and filter algorithm.At last, the paper analyzed the various sectors of system errors that may arise and then sets out a detailed analysis, and proposes a number of possible solutions and responses.Experiment results show that: the system is running stably, silicon solar panels can always be vertical with the ray of the sun, the use of a limited area of operation will intercept more radiation, and improve the efficiency of the use of solar energy. In all, this system represents the advantages of GPS tracking technology on the instantaneity and accuracy, meanwhile, it is cost-effective, simple to install and easy to implement.
