By having been presented the establishing and developping history of Chinese Astornomical Society (CAS) before the establishment of the People's Republic of China, this thesis is pointed out that CAS was an important part of the modernization of astronomy in China.CAS was established on the 30 October 1922 at Beijing. Before that, Kao Lou issued Guan Xiang Cong Bao in the name of CAS by the Central Observatory as a beachhead. By a name list of the senate in early CAS, the conclusion that Kao Lou and some scholars had also given some lectures in Beijing University before the establishment of CAS is made.In order to comunicating with international astronomers by a convenience way, China had planned to participate the 6th General Assembly of the Iternational Astronomical Union(IAU) in Stockholm in 1938 for the first time, but Ch'ing-Sung Yüfailed to go aboard. Aiming at the summary depiction, the course of the failed participation in the meet of IAU is presented in detail by the analysis of the relative archives. And the letters and telegraphs attached after the thesis in these archives are settled as a kind of original material. In addition, the due by China to the IAU is known by having been read the letters between inner and outer China.From the achievement of CAS, such as the observation of solar eclipse organized by CAS, the help for the researches of astronomical history and for the astronomical publications, an important role played by the early CAS in the course of the Chinese modernization of astronomy in early 20th century can be seen.
