Giant Magnetostrictive Actuator (GMA) has promising prospects in the field of ultra-precision, precision positioning, fluid control, robotics, and transducer, etc. However, for the complex characteristics of Giant Magnetostrictive Material (GMM), like coupling of mechanic, electric and magnetic, even more the non-linear relationship between input and output, it is very difficult to design GMA meeting the requirement well. Therefore, in order to get its optimal working parameters to help design, it's essential to test the characteristics of GMA.The current testing methods of GMA have a lot of shortcomings, so this dissertation emphasizing on bent type GMA establishes a multiple functional and effective testing system which is based on virtual instrument technology to handle the exist problem. And then a series of experiments of GMA's static and dynamic characteristics, which will offer good and universal guidance for design and control of GMA, have been done. To sum up, this dissertation includes six chapters.In the first chapter, some aspects of GMM, such as the development background, advantages, application status, as well as the characteristics, are described. And then, the factors that affect its practical application are analyzed. After that, the concept, development history and characteristics of virtual instrument technology are summarized. Basing on the present situation and existing problem of testing methods of GMA, the significance and main contents of this research are clarified.In the second chapter, the requirements of testing system for GMA are analyzed. Then the general frame of the system is established through detailed description of measurement of various parameters and the follow-up signal processing method.In the third chapter, the design of the system's hardware is described in detail, including selection of multiple sensors, methods of signal conditioning and selection of data acquisition card. Then, the anti-interference measures of the system are introduced.In the fourth chapter, the software development environment of the system is analyzed and selected firstly. Then the overall structure of the software is introduced which includes kinds of modules. After that, the specific implementation method of each module is given.In the fifth chapter, after the sensors are calibrated, the static and dynamic characteristics of GMA are experimented. The influences among the output characteristics of GMA, input current, driving magnetic field, pre-pressure, bias magnetic field or other factors are researched. And then the intrinsic frequency and frequency response function are measured.In the sixth chapter, main works of this dissertation are summarized and the further research work is put forward.
