This paper has discussed status and trends of core drilling parameters monitoring system at home and abroad. Based on the popular spindle type drill rig, a test stand has been developed which could automatically monitor and control drilling parameters. The test bench is a pro-research for the automatic rig.Order parameters of core drilling in each production process are analysised to choose appropriate sensors to measure the order parameters, which combines the characteristics of existing drilling rigs. Based on the XY-4 spindle type drill rig the hydraulic system and transmission program has been re-designed. According to the motors and hydraulic system the appropriate hydraulic valves and transducers are selected. Structure of information collection system utilizes the distributed data acquisition and wireless network technology. The structure of monitoring system and hardware of the program are designed for core drilling rig. Parameter acquisition and control modules are integrated through wireless LAN. A computer is selected as data acquisition and process control terminal. Data Acquisition I/O modules use ADAM-6000 Series which are products of Advantech Taiwan. ADAM-6000 series supports Modbus/TCP protocol, which help to improve the ability of real-time transmission of information. Hydraulic control valve and transducer connected to the host computer through a wireless network. The drilling parameter of test equipment could be monitored and controlled automatically by computer. The indoor test result of the core rig drilling parameter control systems is good. Although there are some deficiencies, However, a reference and experience are provided for production site, which has a certain meaning.
