The distribution of gas-liquid two-phase flow was widely existed in heat exchangers in industry. The distribution characteristic affected thermodynamic characteristic directly, and had important effect on the secure and economical operation of the facilities. The distribution characteristic of gas-liquid two-phase flow in distribution header, in which fluids were introduced from single radial inlet and extracted vertically by four upstream branches, was studied by experimental investigation and numerical simulation. Adding a flute to the header, the geometrical improvement scheme, was brought forward. Comparison with the customary configuration revealed that the flute can enhance the uniformity of the flow markedly. Numerical simulation was conducted by commercial software ANSYS CFX, and inhomogeneous free surface flow model was chose. The water volume fraction, the velocity field on header section and the outlet flux were analyzed. The simulation results matched closely with the experimental data and the photograph, and the model could forecast and analyze the gas-liquid two-phase flow field in distribution header effectively.
