The development of GPS (Global Positioning System) has brought revolutionary change to navigation. It provides an unlimited number of users accurate real time position, velocity and time information in a global range. With the rapid development of embedded technology and digital communication technology, GPS devices become smaller, multifunctional, low-cost development. Embedded GPS navigation equipment has brought great convenience to people's lives, and it has a very wide range of applications.This paper describes the GPS system development, systemly researches GPS system's structure, signal, receiving and transmission. This paper analyses the mode of transmission of GPS signals, capture methods and positioning theory, and does matlab simulation of related processes. The embedded system hardware and windows CE embedded operating system is briefly outlined, adopts TQ2440 ARM development board as the hardware platform, and uses of Xi'an Hua Xun Microelectronics Co., Ltd. of HX6123 navigation module to receive GPS satellite signals. The navigation system hardware circuit is designed, ARM windows CE operating system is ported based on the platform, and makes programs to achieve a hand-held GPS navigation system's functions using operating system's hardware resources.The embedded ARM processor is integrated with GPS technology, makes full use of GPS technology's, flexibility and real-time, and combines the current mature embedded operating system windows CE, so GPS navigation system's functions are more diversified and effectively control the cost. It is very significant to the application and popularization of embedded GPS technology.
