In this paper,taking virtual reality geographic information system (VRGIS),which can connect virtual reality with geographic information system,as its major technological support,digital engineering,such as virtual campus and so on,is a product of the information age and visualization is its core technology,being also the hotspot and difficult problems of resent research.Currently,many campus management software can only browse a simple virtual scene,neither storing vast amounts of complex spatial data of campus nor meeting the needs of the school's management and decision analysis.School administrators urgently need a set of scientific management software,which more effectively service campus management and decision-making.Taking the new campus in Henan University as the research object,the paper maily study these aspects,theories,methods and techniques of the construction and functions realization of roaming and GIS,such as,intuitive visual interface,dynamic interactive inquiry, analysis of 2D and 3D,etc,which will be more effectively to service the campus management and decision-making.Specific research contents and achievements are as follows.Firstly,Expound the research progress of virtual reality technology,such as the present situation and development platform of 3DGIS,the important theoretics and algorithms of the model of scene for constructing,visualization technology,etc.And put forward design goal,content,organization structure and technical route.Secondly,Discusse the theory and technology of the constructing virtual scene and 3D model and analyze the types and characteristics of the data needed to construct the virtual scene. Conduct field surveys of the main terrain data,combining with the modern mapping spatial information technology,and establish a database of attributes information and spatial data. The model of virtual scene of the new campus of Henan Universit is built,using 3D modeling tool,texture map,LOD,external references,and other technologies.Thirdly,Research based on GIS the related theory and method of design and implementation of virtual campus.Based on development environment of .NET,using the application program interface(API) , provided by the drive engines of VegaPrime ,can realize the function of real-time roaming freely and randomly.With the API provided by both TEpro(TerraExplorerPro) and AE (ArcGISEngine),the system achieve the basic function of GIS,such as,the two-dimensional and three-dimensional interactive query and the analysis of spatial information ,etc. Fourthly,Study the GIS functions overall design principle,the detailed design content,including these two aspects,database design based on the model of ER and geographical spatial database management.Finally , Chinese character display function.TEpro itself does not provide localization capabilities to achieve Chinese character display function through converting procedure,which facilitate the common user actions.The main innovation points of the paper are as follows.Firstly,Based on development environment of .NET,the system achieve the function of GIS,such as the two and three-dimensional interactive query and the analysis and other function, etc,using the API provided by both TEpro and AE.Secondly,Design a template of visual interface.Using this template can obviously improve the efficiency of program development and this template can be widely used,which can be used both for virtual campus interface design and in the field of computer graphics algorithm research and visual display.Thirdly,Discuss the theory and method of the construction of virtual campus database.Using E - R model for conceptual design is more closer to human thinking, which is convenient to be understood.Using PersonalGeoDatabase to organize the spatial data can satisfy the needs of complex data types of storage and management of the virtual campus.The preliminary discussion of the theory and method can provide some references for the other digital projects concerned.
