Marine diesel engine oils are inevitably in contact with water when ships sailing at sea. Water in oil can cause emulsification, and water can extract additives from oil, both of which will decrease oil performance, even damage it.In this paper, the classification, performance and current status of marine lubricating oil are described. The effect of complex additive on water-separation and washing-resistant property of different base oils and base oil combinations is studied. And the relationship of base oil properties and its structure is researched. The effect of different additives and additive combinations on water-separation and washing-resistant property of fixed base oil combination is also studied. And demulsifiers are screened to raise its water-separation and washing-resistant property. The experimental results show that the content of saturated hydrocarbon and resin may affect the water-separation property, while the heavy aromatic content may influence the washing-resistant property. There exist antagonism between Detergent D and Detergent G. However, the water-separating and washing-resistant results of their combination are better than those of their single use. And the combination of Detergent D3 and Detergent G4 has the best effect on water-separating and washing-resistant. The new complex additive consists of Detergent C, Detergent D3, Antioxidant E, Dispersant F and Detergent G4.0.03% of Demulsifier H7 can greatly improve both water-separation and washing-resistant property of base oil combination containing new complex additive.
