In this paper, we developed a new fixed valve tray——the combination directed fixed valve tray which contains rectangular and trapezoidal directed fixed valves. A directed hole is designed in the fixed valves, and the direction of the hole is agreement with that of liquid flow passing through the trays. The hydrodynamics of the combination directed fixed valve trays were experimentally studied with the air-water system in a 1500×450 mm2 rectangular laboratory column. The pressure drop, weeping rate and entrainment rate of the combination directed fixed valve trays and the combination fixed valve trays have been measured by using air-water system. The experimental results show that the combination directed fixed valve trays have excellent characteristics on the hydrodynamics.The hydrodynamic experimental data were correlated with MatLab and the models of pressure drop, weeping rate and entrainment rate have been obtained. Such studies could provide the basis for the industrial design of the combination directed fixed valve tray.By the computer simulations respecting the application the combination directed fixed valve tray in a column in the polyester unit, it is proved that the combination directed fixed valve trays have good anti-clogging, excellent characteristics and transfer function. The treatment capability and separation efficiency of the combination directed fixed valve trays are qualified for the anticipated design. The combination directed fixed valve trays whose structure is simple and in which the investment is lower, has a good practical application.
