As the cast steel can be designed neatly, using changeability and its excellent mechanics capability, it was used in every area of the industry. As the science and technology developing, the casting process of the cast steel is also developing. In this paper I'd like to introduce the application of the ester cared alkaline phenolic resin which was used in the casting process of cast steel and the design of its workshop.Through the examination of the intensity of tension of the ester cared alkaline phenolic resin in the room-temperature, we know that the intensity of tension is getting bigger as the content of the alkaline phenolic resin increasing. When the content of the resin is 2.0% and the content of the solidified agent is 40% we will get the largest intensity of tension which is 1.08MPa. But we'd better choose the lower content when it already satisfied the request of the manufacture. So we can save more money and it will also avoid the foundry defect. At last we choose the best association is that the content of resin is 2.0% and the content of the ester-cured is 30%.According the examination of the working time and stripping time infected by the different style of the solidified agent, we know that the working time can be extended form 5min to 90 min and the stripping time can also be extended from 12min to 210 min by changing the style of the ester-cured. The most important factor of the time is the style of solidified agent.From the contrast of the gas evolution between the alkaline phenolic resin and no-baking furan resin, we get that the gas evolution of the alkaline phenolic resin is lower 28% than the no-baking furan resin. And the alkaline phenolic resin will not separate out deleterious gases, so it has no gas foundry defect.Through the examination of high-temperature behavior, we know that the strength of compression with the content of resin is 2.0% and the content of ester-cured is 30% is 0.2MPa which was in a heat preservation environment of 1200℃for 2min. This tells us that the alkaline phenolic resin have a good performance at high temperature. And the same sample which was in the heat preservation of 500℃for 30min, its strength of compression is almost 0MPa. It means that we can take the cast steel out of the sand easily.Analysing the curve of transformation of alkaline phenolic resin in a high temperature and compression force, we know that alkaline phenolic resin had a useful plasticity and the cast steel's crackle can be avoided easily.The last is the design of the workshop by alkaline phenolic resin sand basing the results of the examination.The workshop will produce 10000 ton cast steel.The design includs the plane layout,process flow and the election of the equipment.
