Coal mining has the most number of serious casualties as compared to the other industrial sectors, in particular, accidents caused by the gas which brings the greatest numbers casualties and economic losses.Over the past 10 years, the threat of natural disaster has become more prominent with the further increase of mining depth, used of high mechanical powered equipments and intense frequency increment of mining operations. Many of such coal mines had turned into mines that contain high level and concentration of gases as a result of gas emission during mining operation. The potential risk of a gas explosion increases mainly because of the possible friction sparks coming from the electromechanical devices such as high powered mining machines, excavating machineries and conveyor belts. So, there is an immediate need to derive a method to determine the working condition at a safe level in a coal mine and the need to introduce an effective preventive measure.The main reason for the cause of a tragic accident during coal mining is the presence of various hazardous substances and sources, resulting in different causes of these accidents, as well as the environment to some extent. There is a need to derive a way to divide a dynamic complex system into several sub-systems. By conducting risk assessment in every sub-system, obtaining final risk level data and finally by combining comprehensive consideration from various aspect, it will be able to derive a comprehensive risk assessment value.First of all, this article collects various data such as those factors that constantly happened during mining operations and those that regularly affecting the mining operation as the gas risk evaluation module. According to the hazard or risk theory, evaluation index system is established using the evaluated factors undergoing a series of contradicting disintegration. After which, by integrating the catastrophe theory together with fuzzy mathematic theory and using various parameters by means of integrating the comprehensive evaluated matrix to conclude the mining operation condition suitability.At last, by combining the actual data from the mine field as well drawing the curve of results in the Matlab, in contrast to the actual situation shows the comprehensive evaluation method based on the catastrophe theory and fuzzy mathematics theory has a higher success rate, the objectivity is strong .
