As a special type of thermally coupled distillation, Dividing Wall Column was a special column which was installed a vertical plate in the conventional column, made the several flows mass-transferring and heat-transferring simultaneously, and implemented the separation task in a column which was normally completed by a sequence of convevtional distillation. In order to reveal the structure and separation principle of Dividing Wall Column, and to get through the bottle-neck of its simulation, simulation of Dividing Wall Column was executed by Aspen Plus software, experiment of Dividing Wall Column was implemented by the self-designed lab experiment equipment.At frist, the simulation method of Dividing Wall Column was researched. Dividing Wall Column was used to separate ternary mixture. Mathematical model and simulation model of shortcut calculation were established, and the constraint conditions of shortcut calculation were proposed. Besides, the simulation model of the rigorous calculation of the separation was established.Secondly, the separation of alcohol ternary mixture of ethanol,1-propanol and n-butanol was researched. Used Aspen Plus software to simulate the separate process of the sequences of conventional distillation, and column parameters and operation conditions were ascertained by simulation and optimization. Besides, shortcut calculation and rigorous calculation were executed by Aspen Plus software for Dividing Wall Column, and column parameters and operation conditions of Dividing Wall Column were ascertained by simulation and optimization. In the end, energy analysis was performed for the sequences of conventional distillation and Dividing Wall Column. Compared with the sequences of conventional distillation, condenser duty was decreased by 33.45% and 35.58%; re-boiler duty was reduced by 33.79% and35.92%.In addition, the separation of alcohol ternary mixture of ethanol,1-propanol and n-butanol was researched by the self-designed lab experiment equipment. Including of orthogonal experiments and single factor conditional experiments, the influence to separation performance of Dividing Wall Column were discussed, and the optimal operation conditions were ascertained. Besides, shortcut calculation and rigorous calculation were executed by Aspen Plus software for Dividing Wall Column using for the separation of alcohol ternary mixture based on the experimental results. The results indicated that the data of experiment was identical with the data of simulation by the process simulation software Aspen plus and the average relative deviation within the permissible values.In the end, the data regression system within the process simulation software Aspen Plus was used to regres the phase equilibrium values of methanol-DMC-furfural, and the thermodynamic method of this system was confirmed. In order to reveal the save energy reason of Dividing Wall Column Extractive Distillation, the simulation of Conventional Extractive Distillation and Dividing Wall Column Extractive Distillation were executed, and the energy analysis was performed.The simulation and experiment of Dividing Wall Column was executed, which confirmed the separation characteristics and design conditions of Dividing Wall Column and provided a basis for industrial applications of Dividing Wall Column and energy saving renovation of the existed distillation system.
