Structured packings have been widely used in separation industry since they offer excellent mass transfer efficiency, low pressure drop and high capacity. It has good advantages in many areas, such as energy-saving, improving product quality, increasing capacity and gas absorption. Especially, structured packings may have a great performance in CO2 capture field. Recent years, many modifications of structured packings were made, and developed many improved structured packings in domestic and foreign companies, and their performance improved further. These modifications were all based on corrugated structure. Corrugated structure designs flow channels of liquid and gas, but liquid and gas flow so complex that it still needs further understanding. Low utilization ratio of surface exists in structured packings, and the wettability is poor on surface for water system. In this paper, the surface wettability of structured packing improved greatly for water system by surface microstructure design and blending method with post-treatment. Film-forming ratio increased to above 80% for vertical aluminum plate and PP plate after improvement. Based on above, hydrodynamics, such as liquid film thickness, wave motion, was studied. Afterwards, aluminum plate of fine rhombic grooves with 2mm pitch and rough blended PP plate after post-treatment were selected to make corrugated structured packings, which were good wettability, and measured their performance. It was found that mass transfer performance improved significantly for modified or improved packing surface, and pressure drop can change a little.
