Structured packing is widely used in petrochemical, fine chemical industry and so on.The distribution of liquid flowing in the structured packing can affect the efficiency of gas-liquid mass transfer performance,so it is very necessary to study the distribution of liquid on the structured packing.Different scholars have put forward different methods for the visualization study of structured packing, and each method has its advantages and disadvantages. This paper come up with a new method, laser induced fluorescence technique,to study the distribution of liquid in the structured packing.Firstly,in this paper, the basic principle of laser induced fluorescence technology was introduced by the generation of the fluorescence phenomenon, the fluorescence parameters, the selection of the fluorescent agent and the LIF system.Geometric relations of structured packing model were studied;two-dimensional calibration method was proposed and applied in this study. The distribution characteristics of liquid film thickness in the structured packing were studied, and put forward a new method for calculating the static liquid film thickness on the structured packing surface.A simple model for liquid distribution near structured packing wall was proposed according to the liquid film thickness distribution difference of right and left wall and the model parameters were given through experimental data. The phenomenon of node on the structured packing was illustrated by quantitative description in one-dimensional,two-dimensional,three-dimensional perspective.A new way to calculate the wetting area ratio of structured packing was put forward by film thickness distribution characteristics.Tracer was injected to structured packing at only one point, and liquid distribution was studied according to tracer concentration distribution.Numerical simulation was carried out with the experimental conditions, and its results were almost the same to these of experiment, which illustrated the method of numerical simulation should be improved according to experimental results. In this paper, the method of measuring the liquid distribution in structured packing with laser induced fluorescence technique is simple, rapid and accurate and so on.Therefore,it can provide some references for the visualization of structured packing in the future study.
