Lutein ester are lutein's esterified forms with unsaturated fatty acid,existing in many plants,especially Tagetes erecta L is the main resource.Lutein ester is good natural colorant.Recently,many reserches confirmed that esterification does not impair lutein bioavailability in humans,the lutein ester is even better than lutein. So more and more researchers focus on applying lutein ester directly into food and supplements.From the perspective of the industrial production of high purity lutein ester, the purification of lutein ester with Macroporous resins, making lutein ester-β-CD compounds for improving the water solubility and synthesis lutein diacetyl ester with ion-exchange resin as catalyst were researched.Firstly, the purification process was studied and optimum conditions were found as follow:the volume,concentration, adsorption sovlent and flow rate of loading sample were 7 bed volumes (BV),1.432-1.891 mg/mL,20%hexane-ethanol and 2 BV/h, respectively, at 25℃; desorption was performed successively with ethanol and 50%hexane-ethanol. After one run treatment,the lutein ester content in the product was increased from 63.3% to 91.7% with a recovery of 75.9%Then,in order to improve the water solubility of lutein ester and enlarge applicated rang.saturated solution and grinding methods were used to make lutein ester-β-CD compounds and the optimum conditions were found.The result show that grinding method is better than saturated solution method,while two types compounds'water solubility both are 1.2mg at 25℃.Finaly, aiming at getting lutein ester form of singal structure and stable,using lutein and Acetic anhydride as raw material,ion-exchange resin as catalyst synthesizing the lutein diacetyl ester,the reaction condition is milder than normal esterifications.The reaction products were proved to be lutein diacetyl ester by the structure identification.
