In this work, a new type of vinyl-sulfone type epoxy resin based polymeric reactive dye were synthesized by diazo coupling reaction, which means that the diazo sulfatoethylsulfone chromophore was grafted onto the main chain of epoxy resin. Molecular weight and polydispersity of polymeric dye were tested by GPC analysis, the result was Mn=1.74×105, Mw=2.45×105, Polydispersity= 1.41. The structure of the polymeric dye was characterized by using element analysis, IR, Raman, 1HNMR, UV–visible analysis , the results showed that the structure of the polymeric dye was the same as we designed.The thermal property was analyzed by TG , the results showed that the polymeric dye had good thermal stability by comparison with micromolecule diazo dyes. The solubility of the polymeric dye was also analysized, the result was the polymeric dye had good solvent resistance in room temperature, and the polymeric dye was completely dissolved in water above 80℃. The stability of solution polymer dyes in water for pH value were studied. The results were showed that the pH value of solution were showed a larger response. With the pH value decreaseing or increasing, the maximum absorption wavelength were shift to high wave number which was called the phenomenon of red shift. the response performance of dye on the 365nm UV light were reserched. The results showed that the dye were responded lowly.With the time increasing, the maximum absorption wavelength were shifted to low wave numbe which named blue shift phenomenon,and the maximum absorption wavelength 445nm peak intensity were weakened. The temperature stability of the solution for temperature were studied. The results showed that the polymer dye solution were stability welll on the temperature. The solution had a good dilution stabilityThe dyeing properties of the polymeric dye on cotton fabrics and ramie fabrics were discussed, dyeing technics using a one bath exhaust dyeing, the effect factors of dyeing properties on cotton were discussed, such as different alkaline, alkaline concentration, electrolyte concentration, dyeing temperature, fixing temperature and so on. The results showed that the polymeric reactive dye could use on cotton fabrics and ramie fabrics ,and the fabrics which were dyed by polymeric dye had high fixation and good fasteness to washing and rubbing.
