Steel skeleton reinforced HDPE is a new type of excellent performance steel-plastic composite materials, which uses thermoplastic polythene (HDPE) as the matrix and the steel skeleton as the reinforced materials. This composite structure takes advantages of both materials including high strength steel skeleton and corrosion-resistant plastic. Concerning the characteristics of the composite structure of steel skeleton reinforced HDPE, finite element analysis is performed on these composite materials by using finite element software ANSYS, strength analysis is carried out with composite material mechanics and confirmed by experimental data. This paper makes a deeply and systematic analysis of the main mechanical properties of the steel skeleton reinforced HDPE. It receives that change in mechanical properties with different steel skeleton constructions. It obtains the deformation and failure mechanism of the steel skeleton reinforced HDPE under tension and bending load conditions. The reasonable optimization of structural parameters of composite materials is supplied by theoretical basis to meet the demands in mechanical property and cost saving. It simulated tension and bending of different steel skeleton constructions by ANSYS in order to get the tensile modulus and flexural modulus. Finding the tensile modulus of steel skeleton reinforced HDPE is three to nine times more than pure HDPE. The tensile modulus of the composites increased with increasing the ratio of cross-section of metal to matrix's CSA, the inflection point is between 0.04 and 0.05, the trend became weaker, the maximum is about 10000MPa.The flexural modulus of the composites also increased with increasing the ratio of steel wire diameter to matrix thickness and the flexural modulus of composites is three times more than pure HDPE.According to construction of the Steel skeleton reinforced HDPE, computing check formula of tensile-strength and bending strength is used mechanics of composites, which checked strength for different Steel skeleton constructions. Both the tensile-strength and bending strength of composites are three times more than pure HDPE. The result agrees well with the experimental data. Experiment shows the validity and effectiveness of simulation and check formula. It receives the strengthening mechanism and deformation pattern of the Steel skeleton reinforced HDPE by observing and analyzing the fail and deformation's process of composites under the tension and bending.
