With the rapid economic growth in recent years, the traditional landfill method can no longer meet the fast growth of municipal solid wastes in many cities. On the other hand, the incineration method to treat municipal solid wastes used by the developed countries has also associated with new defects. Therefore, the promotion of these methods in our country are questioned. The refuse-derived fuel technology not only can solve the shortages and leachate problems in the process of landfill, but also effectively reduce the secondary pollution generated during incineration of wastes.Solid Wastes of Hangzhou, as raw materials, were made into compact refuse-derived fuels, shaped with podetium, by RDF-5 preparation system. The present research was based on release and removing of chlorine during combustion of RDF, with the chlorine content in RDF measured, its variation relationship with temperature found, and the effect of calcium oxide added as dechlorinating agent studied. The result showed that the chlorine element contained in RDF mainly existed as inorganic chlorine. The release rate of chlorine rose as temperature rising during combustion. It led to dechlorination of PVC to add calcium oxide into RDF, with the best ratio three. Research on the influence of adding sawdust and coal on the thermo-gravimetric characteristic of RDF showed that adding of sawdust could increase volatile content and decrease ash content. In addition, due to its soft property, adding of sawdust was useful for dividing RDF into sections and increasing porosity of RDF for the purpose of raising its combustion properties. Adding of coal extended the burn-out time. And the more proportion of coal, the more severe the combustion process was.
