At present, transporting by pipeline is the most economic way of oil transportation, however adding pour point depressant (PPD) into crude oil is the most effective way to increase capacity, reduce energy consumption and cost of oil pipeline transportation. But there is unified methods and evaluation criteria to analyze component of the PPD product at home, relevant research reports are rare abroad.In this paper, IR and pyrolysis gas chromatography - mass spectrometry (PyGC/MS) were employed for qualitative analysis of poly (alkyl acrylate) which is used as PPD.Above all, Two PPD samples (included base fliud) were analyzed by FT-IR in the first section. The polymer had Infrared absorption characteristics of polyacrylate, and the base fluid had Infrared absorption characteristics of aromatic hydrocarbons.Secondly, poly(octadecyl acrylate) (POA) was analyzed by PyGC/MS under different temperature, and the relationship between pyrolysis products and different temperature was identified. There were increased, decreased and increased again before reducing three models, and then theories were given to e explain them. At last the best pyrolysis conditions were found to identify poly(octadecyl acrylate). In addition, pyrolysis spectrum of poly(octadecylacrylate) was similar to polyethylene(PE), branched-chain carbon atoms number distribution of poly(alkyl acrylates) can be indirectly analyzed by comparing poly(octadecyl acrylate) with PE.Thirdly, two PPD samples were analyzed by PY/GC/MS. The law summarized from poly(octadecyl acrylate) were applied to study poly (alkyl acrylate) PPD, and then obtain the branched-chain carbon atoms number distribution of poly(alkyl acrylates).A fast and accurate qualitative analysis method of PPD smples was established by IR and PyGC/MS.
