With rapid development of kinds of modern photoelectric and electromagnetic detection technology, traditional combat weapon systems face more and more threat. As a commmonly used detection technology in military affairs, radar detection plays a leading role in all the detection techniques. Infrared detection also gets extensive application in reconnaissance, capture of objects and terminal guidance technology, whose usage frequency is just second most after radar detection. As a effective technology of improving survival probability, penetration effectiveness and striking-in-depth ability, stealth technology of weapon systems has been the most important and effective penetration tactics technique in modern war. At present, more and more research achievements of radar stealth has been reported at home and abroad, and theoretical foundation is also very mature. While, both of research achievements and generally recognized theoretical foundation of infrared stealth technology are still rather few. Both of research achievements and theoretical foundation of radar/infrared compatible stealth are even fewer. So, from this starting point, principles of radar stealth and infrared stealth were compared, and mechanism of radar/infrared compatible stealth was discussed. At last, two approaches of radar/infrared compatible stealth technology were studied, which are bilayer and monolayer radar/infrared compatible stealth coatings. In study of bilayer radar/infrared compatible stealth coatings, the influences of the kind and content of pigment, coating thickness on the radar absorbing performance of the coatings were systematically investigated. By optimizing the parameters, it was found that the optimum preparation conditions are as follows: pigment is Al; mass of Al is 40%; coating thickness is 20μm, the infrared stealth coating displays low infrared emissivity value of 0.15 and the absorbing properties are hardly changed when further coated with the infrared camouflage coatings, which indicated that the bilayer paint method is feasible to get an infrared and radar compatible stealth layer coatings. While in study of monolayer radar/infrared compatible stealth coatings, traditional microwave absorbing material carbonyl iron(CI) powder was modified, and infrared emissivity and microwave absorbing property before and after modification were investigated. By comparison, it was found that after spherical CI particles were milled, infrared emissivity of flaky CI particles coating dropped by about 0.2 than spherical and microwave absorbing property was also improved, which are both beneficial to get a radar/infrared compatible stealth coating were investigated.
