The visible light and infrared(IR) stealth material is one of current hot issues of stealth material. It has widest foreground of application and research. In this paper, first of all, we analyzed the mechanism of color vision, the mechanism of infrared radiation and the infrared radiation characteristic of targets and background. Then, the technical index and the requirements were presented. At last, the necessity of preparing the low emissivity material was pointed out.The influences of thickness of the infrared coatings, kinds of binder and content of aluminum flake on the infrared emittance are investigated in detail. From the investigation, we found that the infrared coating has the lowest emittance when the thickness is 35μm. The emittance does not decrease but increases in a sort of way, as the thickness of IR layer is more than 35μm. Ethylene/ethyl acrylate(EEA) has high-transparence in infrared wave and its IR emissivity is 0.77. While the EEA is mixed with aluminum flake in a certain proportion, the emissivity of IR stealth coating can be lowered to 0.41.Also, we found that the IR emissivity of coating made by alkyd is low with preferable machine performance, though the IR emissivity of alkyd resin is high. The dark green, light green and khaki coating with visible light stealth and IR stealth can be got by ball milling of the corresponding pigment, the aluminite powder, the alkyd resin, and the impregnant respectively. The IR emissivity of coating with dark green, light green and khaki is 0.89, 0.76 and 0.64. They have preferable capability in the visible light and IR stealth.Moreover,the compatibility of the IR stealth material and radar absorbing material (RAM) has been investigated in this paper. We proposed that a transition layer between IR layer and RAM layer can be added to optimize their capability. The corresponding experiment result showed that the transition layer is not only helpful to take from the emissivity of the IR layer, but also to increase the absorbing ability of the radar absorber.
