In this thesis, Eeologieal Function Regionalization(EFR) refers to the Process of dividing a certain study area into various eceologicalu fnnction zones according to the similarities and dissimilarities of regional eco-enviromnental characteristie, eco-environmental sensitivity and the importance of eco-sevriees. The major aim of EFR is to lay a seientific foundation for decision-making such as regional eco-enviromnental conservation and construetion, reasonable natural resources utilization, spatial allocation of agricultural and industrial production, and also to develop information and approaeh for enviromnental management department. Regional variation of the ecosystem, cosystems, landscape ecology, hierarchy theory and ecological theory is the theoretical basis of EFR. EFR′s general principles is to be followed based on the ecological environment, socio-economic-oriented, harmonious and balanced development principles, guiding principles, the principle of similarity, the region and facilitate principle of conjugate management.This thesis according to the Dunhuang region′s major ecological problems ultimately determine the ecological sensitivity of ecosystem services and ecological carrying capacity as the division's assessment factor. The Dunhuang region′s major ecological problems are: the northwest regional water ecological environment is imbalance, water resources and wetlands are gradually decline, reduction in biodiversity, degradation of grassland vegetation, buduankuoda and the spread of desertification, ziran disasters exacerbate, heritage and natural landscapes are a serious threat to the survival, ecological carrying capacity is low, the ecological environment is fragile, the amount of water resources in overload.The results show that ecological function value of Dunhuang dominant ecological function protected areas identified as sand-fixing and water conservation, supporting ecosystem function and biodiversity for the protection of water resources, high degree of sensitivity of land desertification; land salinization highly sensitive; biological diversity and sensitive habitats; glaciers, wetland′s water conservation features are very important level. On this basis , In connection with ecological environment regional patterns for the Dunhuang area, determine the principle of division, district basis and targets, protection of ecological functions will be divided into Dunhuang 11 functional areas and functional areas. Then according to ecological characteristics of soil to be eco- environmental issues and driven ecological functions, ecological protection and construction of proposed major tasks and specific measures.
