ABSTRACTThe NBMI/BA solution polymerization was studied by usingchlorofOrm as the solvent and 2,2 -azobisisobutyronitrile(AIBN) asthe initiator. At first, the best reaction conditions was obtained. Andthen the effects on the mechanism of polymeriZaion of alI theconditions were stUdied in detail. The results showed that thesolution polyInerization kinetics almost confirmed to the predictionof Smith-Ewart theory The monomer reactivity fatios of comonomerpairs were determined by a Mayo-Lewis method, they respectivelywere, rl=0.63,f2=l.00.The copolymers were found to be randompolymers, which came to a conclusion that the copolymeriZation wasthe radical one.The oil-in-water microemulsion of SDS/oil/HOwas prePared byusing sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) as the emulsifier, and itS phasebehavior was analyzed. The microemulsion of NBmA waspolymerized with potassium persulfate (KPS) as an initiator. Theeffects of monomer feed, reaction temperature, initiatorconcentration, emulsifier amounts on the rate of microemulsioncopolymeriZation were stUdied in detail. The copolymer compositioncurve was fitted and the overall activation energy ofcopolymerization was calculated.The nucleation mechanism and copolymerization kinetics werediscussed and found that the nucleation of microemulsionpolymerization linked up the Whole process of polymeriZation. Andthe rate curve showed that there was no obvious constam-rate period,and its accelerating-rate period was very long.TO improve the solid content of microemu1sion polymerization,amodified microemulsion polymeriZaion of semicontiuous additionof monomer was used. And a solid content as high as 30wt% wasgotten.The microemulsion terpolymerization of NBMI/AA/St wasinitially researched. And the effects of monomer feed, reactiontemperthee, initiator concefltration, emulsifier arnoullts werediscussed.The copolymer and terpolymer were characterized by IR andTGA. It was found that the copolymers had good thermal properties.
