This paper researches the technology of expert system for hot-strip tandem finisher group design which is based on Windows by Object-Oriented method. This system takes advantage of expert system theory in artificial intelligence, 1C AD technology and expert experience to achieve the rolling rules, the important parameters of rolling mill and the three-dimensional parameterization model building. It not only makes rolling rules more proper, but also designs rolling mill economically and timely, and utilize expert experience efficiently, and develops a new way for finishing mill design and product price decision intelligently. Therefore, it is a task with important theoretical value and practical significance.This system is made up of several parts: knowledge base, inference engine, database, user interface, explanation facility and drawing module and so on. Knowledge, which is expressed with production rules and Object-Oriented paradigm, forms the knowledge base. According to initial data user puts into database and knowledge in the knowledge base, inference engine makes proper rolling rules and achieve the important parameters of rolling mill through its forward chaining. To reduce the weight and cost of finishing mill to the minimum, optimum design computes the important parameters with constrained cyclic coordinate method, and precision is improved further. Database is used to maintain data user puts into and infer. Explanation facility provides precise answers for users.Drawing module, which is graphic system of 1C AD, consists of geometric and three-dimensional parameterization model design of work roll, backup roll, mill framework and finishing mill. Parametric design makes interface between Visual Basic 6.0 and SolidWorks 2000 on the basis of program driving, and outputs three-dimensional parameterization model of work roll, backup roll, mill framework and finishing mill.This system combines Object-Oriented paradigm with visual programming, and utilizes Visual Basic 6.0 for development tools. It has gooduser interface and can be easily operated with keyboard and mouse.
