In this paper, a new type of reinforcing size that is used in fiber has been systematically studied. Fibers treated by this sizing have excellent characters such as well-bonded, well-chopped, good flow ability during process. SMC made by these fibers has good mechanical properties.At first, the paper put forward a new method by which interfacial strength can be measured. This method is an improved pullout test, which is easily operated and valid to measure interfacial strength correctly. Then, four main size ingredients including film-former, coupling-agent, lubricant and antistat have been researched. Respectively each component of aqueous size emulsion has been chosen. Polyurethane resin as film-former, amine organo coupling agent A-174 as coupling agent, methyl strearate as lubricant, and ammonium chloride as anti-static are decided. The proportions in the size emulsion have been decided after considering the process of drawing threads, the chopped capability and the mechanical properties. Through SEM and XPS analysis of interface, it is showed to all that the cohesion between the UP resin matrices and glass fibers is improved. Finally, it is decided:polyurethane resin as film-former whose concentration is 5%------8%, amineorgano coupling agent A-174 as coupling agent whose concentration is 0.5% , methyl strearate as lubricant, whose concentration is 0.05%, ammoniumachloride as anti-static whose concentration is 0.1%.
