Ballistic composite with outstanding ballistic properties and without twice kill-wound effect has been widely applied in body defence and military arms for the modern high-tech war, for example, ballistic waistcoat, helmets and the components for truck, airplane and marine. The followings are carried out for ballistic composite with resin matrix to realize its double function of loading and bulletproof and meet various tactics technology demands in the paper1. The resin and reinforcement for arms ballistic system are selected and ballistic properties for composites with different resin matrixs (improved phenolic, polyethylene, rubber, bi-phenol-A, and biamaleimide ) and different fibers(Kevlar, glass, carbon and UHMWPE fiber) are investigated, with the aim of Maxwell model to explain the matrix match principle for ballistic composites. According to the mechanic and ballistic properties test, the Kevlar fiber and phenolic resin are chose as the reinforcement and matrix respectively.2. In terms of the theory analysis of structure design for composite laminating targets, the demands of fiber content for ballistic laminating composites are analyzed from energy absorption and wave transmission and complex effect.3. Based on the gel time and DSC curve figure of two kinds of modified phenolic resin and Flory and Kissinger theory, the rage of cure process parameters for the resin system, moulding pressure and resin content are established.4. The optimistic resin system and the effect of resin content on the targets performance are discussed by orthogonal experiments, based on which, the moulding process parameters such as temperature, pressure, cycle and post-cure temperature are designed optimistically.5. On the study of the ballistic mechanism of fibre and composites, the ballistic properties are analyzed in details with the numeric experimental phenomenon and damage characters of composite targets, which suggests the excellent ballistic performance of Kevlar composite arms.
