This paper makes an attemp to apply object oriented technique to finite element method(FEM) numerical simulation of casting. How to use object oriented software's design patterns to improve expandability and maintenance of FEM software is studied; the FEM formula of three dimensional(3-D) thermal field numerical simulation is gotton by functional variation; complex casting's thermal field FEM numerical simulation software is developed and proved practiable by simulating a high pressure ball valve. The result shows developing FEM numerical simulation software of casting's solidification process using object oriented technique is feasible and the simulation result is acceptable. In this paper, shrinkage prediction of steel is also programed, the graphical user interface(GUI) of the software metioned above and the display method of simulation results are designed too.
