| Twin-roll strip casting process is absorbing the attention of the steel producers of the world as one of the new technologies for its suitability for the steel industry developing tendency of low energy consumption, short procedure, high speed and low production cost. The consumers'demand of small lot and multiple grades is in great need of the process to be successful and enter practical application. But the controlling ranges of process parameters are in very narrow variant ranges. Small variation of the process parameters may produce severe damage to the casting strip, so computer simulation is urgent required to simulate the process in order to provide optimized process parameters for controlling twin-roll strip casting process.The present paper endeavors to study the influence of casting speed and cooling intensity on twin-roll strip casting process. A comprehensive investigation is conducted theoretically into the poll molten steel, the casting roll of the heat transfer process, and the temperature fields of the molten steel and casting roll in the twin-roll strip casting process have been achieved by finite element method and C program. And the research situation of twin- roll strip casting technique was summed up, the change laws of the exploratory research to the casting process by using the large finite element analyzing software was done, including:Based on the characteristic of heat transfer of the metal in molten pool, it presented a new method of creating mathematical model and a new mathematical model of heat transfer equation was made. The treatments for key problems such as the solidification heat and turbulence viscosity etc have been conducted successfully.An method combining simulation, calculation of thermal equilibrium and measured results was proposed to treat the heat transfer boundary condition between the roll and molten pool effectively, and the simulation accuracy is improved significantly. The detailed heat transfer boundary conditions between the roll and molten pool for different processing conditions were presented.Using FEA commercial package and C program, a numerical simulation for temperature field of the molten pool and the roll during the solidification of twin roll thin strip process was performed. The effects laws of the casting speed, cooling strength and pouring temperature on the temperature field of the stainless steel have been obtained.Some key issues determining the processing parameters during twin roll thin strip casting have been analyzed successfully, which provide a basis for determining and optimizing the processing parameters of strip casting process. |
