The dummy design is based on the technology of computer emulation and modeling and by using the virtual product models to emulate and evaluate the performance of products before they are actually manufactured so as to obtain the optimum performance of the products.The upper beam of 5200t Press Brake is a large size component with the most complex structure and receiving the most complex forces on the heavy- duty press brake. Cases of component failures due to structural defects mostly happen on the upper beam. The question for study here is to research the upper beam of 5200t Press Brake by applying the technology of dummy design, create the emulated model reflecting the characteristics of the beam and conduct an all-around analysis and forecast of its performance before the actual design and manufacture take place so as to accomplish the feasibility research and optimization of the upper beam in the dummy circumstances. By using the analytical data and through a further research on structural defects and stress concentration of the upper beam, a creation and optimization on the whole and partial structures can eliminate various structural defects and reduce the stress concentration at the stage of design.After the overall tests and commissioning of 5200t Press Brake, every performance parameter reaches the design requirement and basically coincides with the data in the dummy design, which proves the dummy design of the upper beam of 5200t Press Brake is successful and effective.
