In China, the geological tectonics is very complicated and the mountain ecological environment is so changeful, it leads to China be one of the countries that suffer from the mountain disasters seriously.Zhejiang province is located in the southeast pat of China. The main physiognomy is mountains and hills, the climate is subtropical monsoon with rich rainfall, and the main rain period is Meiyu period and typhoon period. With the special natural condition and irrational human activity, ecological environment was destroyed and a large number of mountain hazards occurred. Furthermore, people's life and wealth was threatened. In order to reduce the lost, put the evaluation of mountain environment and mountain environment zonation in practice become very important.The study was taken in practice after the relationship research between mountain hazards and mountain environment factors, and the foundation of mountain environment database. With the support of ARC/INFO, Maplnfo and MEMIS software, mountain stability evaluation was taken out in Qingyuan county by Information model, exponential sum model. The evaluating factors are terrain elevation, soil type, slope, aspect of slope, land-use and road distribution. And the land type unit was selected as evaluation unit. Based on the evaluation of mountain stability environment, mountain environment zonation was accomplished. Main contents of the study are: With the support of ARC/INFO software, by overlay the terrain elevation coverage, slope coverage, aspect of slope coverage, and soil type coverage, landtype unit was created. And take it as the evaluation unit of mountain stability environment. In order to validate its superiority, physical geographical unit was taken out as benchmark object. The evaluating factor's weight is ascertained by two steps, first ascertain two kinds of weights by expert-analytic hierarchy weighting process and the method of variation coefficient, then integrate this two kind weights, then the factor's weight was obtained. During this process, evaluation factors was acquired, those are terrain elevation, soil type, slope, aspect of slope, land-use and road distribution. The mountain stability evaluations were taken out by Information model and exponential sum model, then obtain two mountain stability maps of Qingyuan county. The mountain stability was divided into four grade, as "the first grade (stable region)", "the second grade (rough stable region)", "the third grade (unstable region)" and "the forth grade (highly unstable region)". Finally, compare the two evaluating results with the result by harassing attack coefficient method. Based on the evaluation of mountain stability environment by Information model, mountain environment zonation was accomplished with qualitative index and quantitative index. The county was divided into four zonations, as "north stable region", "east rough stable region", "north west unstable region" and "south west highly unstable region". Furthermore, every zonation was divided into two subzonations. The MEMIS was developed on Maplnfo6.0, Microsoft Visual C++ 6.0 and MapX 4.5. It have main function of GIS, especially it can accomplish mountain environment evaluation and complete mountain environment zonation.Some new ideas of this study are: Based on the specialty of mountain hazards in Zhejiang province and Qingyuan county, evaluation unit of mountain stability environment was created by overlay the terrain elevation coverage, slope coverage, aspect of slope coverage, and soil type coverage. It makes the evaluation unit more heterogeneity, and makes the evaluation result more actually. Mountain environment zonation was accomplished based on mountain stability environment evaluation result and qualitative index and quantitative index.
