The degradation behavior of the polyethylene, which blended with salt of ferrite and starch, has been studied in this thesis. Some results have been found when polyethylene was under composting environment and irradiated by UV light of 375W.1. The result showed that the biodegradation degree of the polyethylene in the starch/polyethylene blends was rising with the starch content increasing under composting environment. When the content of starch was more than 30%, molecule weight of polyethylene was low after compost. Scan the surface of sample, many holes that advanced the degradation of polyethylene were found. When ferrite blended with polyethylene, molecule weight of polyethylene didn't change. FTIR wasn't changed. This result indicated that the biodegradation of polyethylene/ ferrite wasn't better than polyethylene/ starch.2. Prolonged irradiation time and added the content of ferrite, mechanics capability and molecule weight of polyethylene were lower, carbonyl index and hydroxyl index were higher. Molecule weight of polyethylene was low after irradiation. On the contrary, mechanics capability of polyethylene/ starch was high then low. Carbonyl index washigher. When polyethylene/ starch dissolved in tetrachloride, indiscerptible was lower along with starch higher. This result made clear that the photodegradation of polyethylene/ferrite was better than polyethylene/ starch.3. The mechanism of degradation was studied. Kinetics equation wasdeduced that was This conclusion was proved by the carbonyl index and hydroxyl index.
