Along with joining in the WTO, competintion of the steel markets in China will be more intense, and consumers have also put forward more requirements to the quality of steels. Facing the intense market competition, each enterprise regards improving the product quality as the major means of increase its ability to competition. Although Jiuquan Iron & Steel company has the desulphurization pretreatment equipment, it has get behind, and the desulphurization efficiency became low.This subject has anslyzed various molten iron pretreatment desulphurization methods, priciples, the merits and defects, and the major influence factors to desulphurization, at the same time put forward a technology of spurt blowing magnesium grains for pre-desulphurization. Using the cold form simulation test, the writer established the proper technology parameters of spurt blowing, designed the equipments of spurt blowing magnesium grains, and carrien on the industrial experiments at the steelmaking wordshop desulphurization station of Jiugang. The result shows that through the magnesium grain desulphurixation technology, desulphurization efficiency is 85-95%, temperature of the molten iron falls 10~15癈, and wastage of magnesium grain is 0.45~0.60kg/t. Compared with others, the desulphurization technology using magnesium grains has many characteristics such as efficient desulphurization, low falling of temperature of molten iron, little slag and the little pollution to the environment, etc. The result of research provides successful experience and important referenced basis for each native steal factory applying magnesium grains pre-desulphurization technology.
