Being a multi-functional water body and important water source, The Wuhan urban reach of the Hanjiang River plays a very important role in watering, shipping, industry and agriculture. The quality of the water body has a direct influence on the development of Wuhan City, such as economic construction, social sustainable development, etc. So it is quite significant to find a water quality model fitted with the reach by studying the existing status and problems of the reach to predict the water quality and provide basis for environmental assessment, prevention and cure in pollutant and plan & management of water resource.Based on the recent existing materials of hydrology, water quality, natural environment and social environment in the Wuhan urban reach of the Hanjiang River, the contaminative characteristics and the most disadvantageous season have been identified. At the same time, through the research on transporting and decaying & converting laws of pollutant in the river and the research on Dynamics Theory in water composition biochemical transforming, a water quality model has been set up. Then by utilizing the actual monitoring materials of this reach in the dry season of 2000, with the help of the steepest descent method, the water quality model parameters have been determined. After being checked with the actual monitoring materials of this reach in the dry season of 2001, the water quality model in the dry season has been set up finally. On the basis of this, a program has been compiled with the software VB and Microsoft Access to deal with data and make it automatic to compute and simulate.Through above-mentioned work, the water quality model in the dry season of the Wuhan urban reach of the Hanjiang River has been set up finally. This model is a one-dimensional and stable state water model which has been already relatively mature and used in international and domestic rivers widely. After being checked, the parameters are relatively rational and the results predicted arerelatively credible. So, the model can be used to provide the basis for environmental assessment of water environment, prevention and cure in pollutant and plan & management of water resource in the dry season of the Wuhan urban reach of Hanjiang River.At last, based on the actual monitoring materials of this reach in the dry season of 2000,the model set up finally was adopted to have two simulative trials, and the results of the trials can contribute to right decisions made by the environmental administrative departments and water resource plan department.
