The thesis consist of the following three parts:Part I :A review on research and development of synthesis and Application of esters of starch and Aromatic Azo compounds and their Optical Application:Based on the systematical consulation of the literature documents, this review summarized the study and progress and utilization of ester s of starch. The acetate modified starch ,the phoshophoric esters of starch ,starch sodium alkenyl succinate ect have been introduced in this part .A various of reaction conditions were compared. The study of esters of starch in recent years shown that the behaviours of starch are different from resources to resources. The modified methods of starch have a great effect on the behaviour of the modified starch. The behaviour of starch is different even if it has the same resources and the same modified methods when its degree of substitution is different .So we take the different modified methods to change the behaviour of starch to meet the different needs. In this part, the progress of the study of the esterificaion starch is reviewed in recent years. The history of the study of the modified starch has been more than one hundred years. But the research of modified starch makes a great progress in recent years, most of the modified starches have been used industries in the countries with advanced technology such as America , Japan and the effect is very good .Part II :the synthesis and structural characterization of the esters of starch -AZO dys.18 esters of starch-Azo dyes were prepared by the reaction of the ester exchange in emulsion solution. The effects of parameters such as amount of AGU and Azo-dye,reaction temperature; reaction time, structure of monomer on the degree of substitution has been thoroughly investigated . The result shown the optimum temperature is 125℃ and the optimum reaction time is 3.5h,the optimum amount of starch and the ester of Azo-dye is 2.8:1; the evidence and structural characterization of esters of starch and monomers have been determined by means of FTIR spectroscopy. X-ray, diffraction analysis, scanning electron microscopy( SEM), thermogravimetry analysis(TGA),and differential analysis (DTA).Part m Photochromism behaviour of esters of starch and Azo-dye in solution and in PMMA thin film:The reversible photochromic and the thermal isomerization of 8 esters of Azo-dyes and dispersed in thin PMMA film. The effect of solvent, irradition pf different power lamp were investigated. The result shown the 8 monomers and esters have the photo-chromism behaviour, But other 10 monomers and the esters of starch have not shown the photochromism behaviour.The photochromism behaviour of copolymers of starch and Azo-dyes and the esters of starch and Azo-dyes have been compared , and we found the rate of photoisomerization of the copolymer of starch and Azo-dyes was faster than the ester of the starch and Azo-dyes. And the higher power of lamp induced equilibrium more quickly.
