In these paper previous studies for the photo-luminescence in ternary complex of rare earth with 1,10-phenanthroline and rare earth doped complex have been reviewed. Six ternary complexes of rare earth with α-Naphthoic Acid and 1,10-phenanthroline and four kind of doped complex were synthesized. The fluorescence characterization of complexes were studied, and the influence of structure of complexes and ligands, doped ions to fluorescence of center ions were discussed.Thesis consists of the following five parts:Part 1: Six new solid complexes of rare earth RE(Nap)3?phen(RE = Y, La, Eu, Sm, Tb, Dy) with α-Naphthoic acid (HNap) and 1,10-Phenanthroline(phen) were prepared. These complexes were characterized by UV, TG-DTA, XRD, IR, Raman, XPS, 1H-NMR, X-ray single-crystal diffraction. X-ray diffraction shows that each Eu(III) atom was co-ordinated in a distorted capped square antiprism geometry. in which phen molecular acts in chelating by two nitrogen atoms and two of six carboxylate group function in bridging-chelating, chelating and bridging mode by two oxygen atoms from Nap(. Photoluminescence (PL)properties of complex were studied There are different intense in PL emissions of Eu binary and ternary complexes. Europium complexes with 1,10-phenanthroline ligands has best intense emissions. ternary complex is better, and Europium complexes with α-Naphthoic Acid has least intense emissions. Emission spectrum of dysprosium, terbium ternary complexes was not investigated.Part 2: Europium Benzoate doped Yttrium and Samarium complex were synthesized(Y0.75-xEu0.25Smx(BA)3, Y0.75-xEu0.20Smx(BA)3. The relation of their fluorescent intensity and peak width to the doped ions were discussed. The PL intensity and the emission width of the Eu complexes increased by adding Y3+, Sm3+. Part 3: Series of complexes were prepared with different ligands, different doped ions and different content of doped ions. Ligands include 1,10-Phenanthroline, 18-C-6, Acetylacetonate. RE1xRE21-x(AA)3 (RE1 Y, La, Gd;, RE2 = Tb, Eu); RExEu1-x(18-C-6)Cl3·nH2O (RE = Y, Tb, Dy); RExEu1-x(phen)2Cl3·nH2O (RE = Y, La, Gd, Tb, Dy);TbxDy1-xLnCl3·nH2O (L=18-C-6, phen; n = 1, 2). UV, IR, TG-DTA were used in the characterization, and photoluminescence (PL)properties of complex were studied.Part 4: The influence is discussed in PL intense of doped complexes, including ligands, non-fluorescence doped ions, doped fluorescence ions and different synthesization method (Sol-Gel method).
