Three derivatives of alkoxy phthalocyanine Pb were synthesized as optical limiting materials. The structures of products were characterized by means of IR,HNMR spectra and elementary analysis. And then , the phthalocyanine Pb / polymethy methacrylate(PMMA) were prepared. The absorption spectrum of these composite materials between 200-800nm were measured to determine their Q-bands ,and they were found having good third nonlinear optical properties perhaps .Then the nonlinear reverse saturable absorption measurements of composite materials were performed with a frequency-doubled Q switched Nd:YAG laser with 8ns laser pulse at 532nm. The factors that affect the performance of reverse saturable absorption and optical limiting of the materials were discussed. A phenomenological model is used to describe optical limiting phenomena.
